Hog Roast Blackpool – Wedding Catering by the Seafront

Hog Roast Blackpool – Wedding Catering by the Seafront

Today we travelled over to Blackpool for a wedding just a short walk from the seafront. It’s always a bit different working in Blackpool; it’s nice to see this historic town on the rise. The seafront looks well nowadays after the regeneration programme it’s been through.

The buzz of the promenade is always the same; memories from being a child come rushing back whenever we cater in Blackpool. The sea air, the hustle and bustle, it’s just great.

This catering event was one for Sarah and Mike, and they had around 70 guests for the main wedding breakfast, with numbers building to well over 150 for the evening.

Friends and family coming in from all over, we spoke to guests from as far south as Cornwall and as far north as Aberdeen! Someone did joke, it’s surprising how far guests will go when Mike is at the bar, I think they were hinting he wasn’t the most generous when it came to getting the drinks in.

The event had a really good atmosphere from the start. The weather was nice, a little chilly but blue sky, nice and fresh, which always helps near the coast. That said, people do tend to worry about the weather, especially in places like Blackpool, but in reality, it rarely affects the event itself. We’ve worked in torrential rain and the events are still fantastic. People just adapt; we have never seen it spoil an event in 18 years.

For this wedding catering in Blackpool, we arrived a full 10 hours before service and got set up straight away. Access was a little tighter than usual — which is pretty common around the seafront — but nothing we haven’t dealt with before. Within 20 minutes of arriving, we had the gazebo up, the hog on, and everything ticking along nicely.

The Antipasto for this event was being served inside the venue, The Pavilion on the Prom! We had a service time of 2 pm for the antipasto, and to have the main wedding breakfast ready from 2:30 pm

As guests started arriving, it didn’t take long before people were asking questions about the hog. You always get the same ones — how long it’s been cooking, how much it weighs, and what happens to the leftovers. It’s part of the experience really, and people enjoy seeing it all being done properly.

The antipasto went down really well. Lots of comments on how lovely it looked. People actually couldn’t believe how nice it was. We take great pleasure in the comments; in fact, it’s really, really nice and really helps making the extra effort all worthwhile. People do appreciate it.

We served the main hog roast in the afternoon, with fresh rolls, stuffing, apple sauce and a selection of salads on the side. As always, the crackling disappeared quickly. There’s just never enough. There is only so much skin on a hog!  There were plenty of comments about how tender the pork was and how fresh everything tasted, which is exactly what you want to hear. Lots of people asking how we get the crackling so perfect. Well again, it’s simple, good salt, boiling water and a very hot oven!

The homemade coleslaw got the usual attention too. People always think there’s some secret to it, but it really just comes down to using fresh ingredients and doing it properly. Nothing overcomplicated. We do like to add a touch of salad cream, which gives it a nice tang.

For the evening, we switched things up slightly and brought out the BBQ. Sausages and burgers went down really well, especially as more guests arrived later. That’s one of the things we like about weddings like this — they build throughout the day and into the night. The smell of the caramelised onions was quite something.

We’ve done plenty of hog roast catering in Blackpool over the years, as well as nearby areas like Lytham St Annes, Fleetwood and Poulton-le-Fylde, and it’s always the same response — people just love it.

What stands out about events like this in Blackpool is how relaxed they are. People aren’t tied to tables — they’re up, moving around, grabbing food when they want and just enjoying themselves. It suits hog roast catering perfectly and creates a much better atmosphere than more formal setups.

As always, we had several guests coming over to ask about future bookings, which is always a good sign.

All in all, it was a brilliant day. Great people, great setting, and great food — exactly what you want from a wedding. It’s exactly why we continue to get so many bookings for wedding catering in Blackpool and along the Fylde coast.
