Hog Roast Great Harwood – Birthday Catering at a Local Cricket Club
Today we were over in Great Harwood for a birthday celebration at one of the local cricket clubs. It’s always a nice run over here, and Great Harwood is one of those places where events just seem to have a really good feel to them.
This one was for a 50th birthday, it was Joan’s special day today, and her husband, Gary, had booked us for her surprise party! Around 80 guests were waiting for us when we arrived. A proper mix of family and friends, exactly the kind of event that suits a hog roast. We have catered here in Great Harwood 3 times this year, and it’s always a pleasure to come back to.
We arrived a couple of hours before service at 8 pm and got set up straight away. The gazebo was up quickly, the hog was on, and everything was complete after around 15 minutes. It surprises people how fast we can get set up. We have been doing it for 18 years now, so it is a lot quicker than all those years ago when we first started.
It never takes long before people start wandering over; you can always tell when the smell starts drifting across, and people are genuinely really ready for some food at these types of serve times. Often, they have had plenty to drink, and the stomachs have started to groan, probably way before we arrive.
“How long has that been cooking?” is always the first comment asked. It’s part of the experience really, and people enjoy seeing it all being done properly.
Serve time was 10 pm for this one. And we got straight into it. Fresh rolls, stuffing, apple sauce and a selection of Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce. The crackling didn’t last long, it never does, and as usual, we had plenty of comments about how tender the pork was.
The apple sauce makes a difference, as we serve it warm. Not only creating a very special aroma with the cinnamon but also helping blend the sandwich together, warm hog roast, warm apple sauce and warm sage and onion stuffing. Just superb. There are often 2 as well for those with a bigger appetite.
What stood out at this event was how well everyone was getting on with each other. There was really some superb banter. We were actually in stitches at points through service with some of the wit. It really was a great event for us.
It only took us around 35 minutes, and we had everyone served just after 10:30 pm. As this was just our hog roast menu with no side dishes, the pack up was really quick. We were leaving the club just after 11 pm. It was brilliant, actually, to see a group of around 10 lads chanting our names in some drunken made-up song. What a great night. This is exactly why we love doing event catering. You just never know what’s going to await you on the day; We love it.
We’ve done quite a few hog roast and BBQ events in Great Harwood and nearby areas like Accrington, Blackburn and Rishton, and it’s always the same, people love how simple and enjoyable it is.
All in all, a super day. Good people, good atmosphere, plenty of laughs and great food, you can’t ask for much more.
