Hog Roast Hale – Wedding Catering at a Private Garden Reception
Today we were over in Hale for a wedding reception set in a private garden just off one of the quieter residential roads near Hale village. Hale is always a nice area to work in — everything feels a bit more polished, but still relaxed when it comes to events like this.
This one was for Tom and Rebecca’s wedding, with around 110 guests expected across the afternoon and into the evening. A great number for what we do — big enough to create a proper atmosphere, but still easy to manage so everything runs smoothly.
SETTING UP AND GETTING READY
We arrived just before 9 am to get everything in place ahead of the afternoon service. Access was straightforward, which always makes a difference when unloading. The setup area was at the bottom of the garden, giving us plenty of space to get the hog roast and BBQ running side by side.
Within 15–20 minutes, the gazebo was up and the hog was on. That’s always the first job — get the hog roasting — then everything else can follow at a steady pace.
For this one, the hog was prepped with a light scoring across the skin, just enough to allow it to open up properly during cooking. After a few hours, once the skin starts to separate, we go in with the salt to get that proper crackling. It’s something we’ve dialled in over the years, and it makes all the difference.
Alongside the hog roast, we were also setting up the BBQ. This was one of our combined setups, which works really well for weddings. It gives guests more choice and adds a bit more variety to the whole experience.
BUILD-UP TO SERVICE
By early afternoon, guests were starting to arrive. Drinks were flowing, music was on, and you could feel that steady build-up you always get before the food starts.
As expected, the hog roast started drawing attention pretty quickly. You always get the same questions:
“How long’s that been on?”
“What time are we eating?”
“Can we try some crackling?”
It’s part of it, and people genuinely enjoy seeing it there cooking away.
SERVING THE MAIN EVENT
Serve time was around 3 pm, and we got straight into it.
Fresh rolls, sage and onion stuffing, warm apple sauce and our BBQ sauces all going together with the pork. Alongside that, the BBQ was running, serving burgers, sausages and marinated chicken.
This kind of setup works perfectly for weddings. Some guests head straight for the hog roast, others go for the BBQ, but most end up trying a bit of everything.
The sides were a mix of fresh salads, keeping things light alongside the meat. It’s something we always recommend — you don’t need to overload the menu, just keep it balanced.
As always, the crackling went quickly. There are always a few guests hovering, waiting for it — we never say no.
ATMOSPHERE AND FLOW
What stood out at this one was how easy-going everything felt. No rushing, no pressure — just people enjoying themselves, grabbing food when they were ready and going back for more later.
We had a few groups stood chatting near the setup, and before long they’d all been back for seconds without even thinking about it.
That’s exactly why this style of catering works so well for weddings. It fits around the day rather than interrupting it.
ROUNDING OFF THE DAY
By late afternoon, everyone had been served and things started to ease into the evening. With the earlier service time, it gave the couple plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day without feeling rushed.
We packed down smoothly and were on our way just as the evening entertainment was getting started.
We’ve catered quite a few hog roast Hale events over the years, as well as nearby areas like Altrincham, Bowdon and Timperley, and it’s always the same — great venues, well-organised events and a really good atmosphere.
A really enjoyable one for us.
All the best to Tom and Rebecca — we hope you have an amazing honeymoon!
