HOG ROAST IN SALE – BIRTHDAY PARTY CATERING
Today we travelled the short distance across to Sale for a joint Birthday for dad Gary and Daughter Jessica. Dad was 50 and Daughter Jessica was 21. The event took place at Sale Excelsior Club. A fantastic little club backed up by its outstanding Google reviews. We had 140 guests to feed at this event and our 80kg hog stood up to that perfectly, in fact, as you will read later, was even enough for seconds!
Just off the M60 and down Park Street. We were booked to serve quite late at 10 pm. We love late serves; everyone is even more relaxed with plenty of drinks inside them. The laughs and jokes are quite brilliant at this time of night. Many times, our fire back lines are, “wow, he has a drink and thinks he’s Bernard Manning” and “I didn’t realise you were a comedian”. The banter flows both ways and gets everyone in the queue laughing and involved. On this occasion, it was Gary’s “best mate” Steve, who started the banter. We just love events like this. Really down-to-earth working-class people. Fantastic.
Sale has always been a nice place to work. It’s one of those areas where events are well organised, but still very relaxed. This one was no different: music on, drinks flowing early, and a really good crowd.
SETTING UP FOR A LATE NIGHT SERVE
We arrived a couple of hours before the 10 pm serve time and got set up straight away. Access was perfect, but as always, no issues. Within 20 minutes, the gazebo was up, hog on, and everything was ticking along nicely.
Gary came out to greet us and make sure we had a drink. We are always very appreciative of that.
THE HOG STARTS DRAWING A CROWD
People were out when we arrived already. Nearly all were ‘vaping’. You can always tell when the smell starts drifting, heads turn, conversations stop mid-sentence, vapes get put away, and before you know it, there’s a small group gathered around.
The usual questions came out:
“How long has that been cooking?”
“Is that all going to be eaten tonight?”
They always make us laugh. It’s like getting into the taxi and asking, what time do you finish. It’s just standard questions in our industry.
SERVING TIME AND THE CRACKLING DISAPPEARING
Serve time came around quickly, and we got straight into it. Fresh rolls, stuffing, apple sauce and plenty of crackling. The crackling disappeared within minutes, in fact, quite a lot had gone before we started serving. There is always a few culprits. The first one, can I just try a piece, yes, of course. Walks away, friends spot it, then of course they’re up just “trying a piece”.
One thing that stood out at this event was how many people came back for seconds. That’s always a great sign.
GREAT FEEDBACK AND FUTURE BOOKINGS
We also had a few guests asking about future bookings and taking cards. Word of mouth at events like this is massive for us. In fact, most of our work comes from recommendations.
HOG ROAST CATERING IN SALE
We’ve done plenty of hog roast catering in Sale over the years as well as BBQ’s, I must add; last year, we catered 6 events in Sale. We have also covered events in nearby areas like Altrincham and Urmston, and it’s always the same: people love how relaxed it is and the amazing atmosphere it creates.
All in all, a brilliant night. Great people, great atmosphere, and plenty of good food.
