Hog Roast Oswaldtwistle – 21st Birthday Catering at Church Cricket Club
Today we travelled just off the M65 to Oswaldtwistle. The event was a Birthday party, to be exact, it was a 21st for Harry. Harry was a popular lad; there were over 120 guests at Church Cricket Club to celebrate.
With loads of friends and family all coming together to celebrate Harry’s birthday, it was sure to be a brilliant night. The weather was surprisingly superb. People do think the weather really affects the event; however, honestly, it does have a small impact, but we have worked in torrential rain, and the parties have still been a huge hit. The atmosphere was great here. The only people the weather really affects are the catering team when packing away. However, it’s something we are used to and nothing a warm shower doesn’t sort out once back home.
For Harry’s birthday, we arrived 2 hours before the serving time of 8 pm, got the hog roasting straight away as usual, the gazebo and tables were set up in no time and we were ready for service. It takes us around 20 minutes from arriving to be fully set up. Once people started arriving, the intrigue was obvious. Lots of them were up and around the hog, asking all the usual questions. “So, how long has this been cooking then?”, “what do you do with the leftovers?”
They always make us laugh. In truth, the leftovers are always shown to the client, and anything required is left for them. We can even make sandwiches and wrap up for them to eat later in the night. Sometimes they just want the pork as is, to take home and freeze for a later date.
Serve time came around quickly, and in no time at all, the guests were fed and coming back for seconds (and the occasional thirds!), which is always a great sign. The crackling went down well again — as it always does — and there were plenty of comments about the tenderness of the meat and how fresh everything tasted.
The homemade coleslaw always has guests asking for the recipe. That’s a guarantee at every event. The secret is just quality fresh cabbage, carrots and onion mixed with an organic mayonnaise. All from our local farm shop.
At this event, we provided a potato salad, although not on our menu; it was a request and also a hit on the night. Again, just quality potatoes from our local supplier, mixed with red onions, crème fraiche and topped with some fresh chives. Again, simple and delicious. People tend to overcomplicate things or just use substandard products in the first place. With us being huge foodies, this is never going to be the case.
We’ve done quite a few events like this across Oswaldtwistle and nearby areas such as Accrington, Rishton and Blackburn, and it’s always the same response — everyone loves it
What stands out about events like this in Oswaldtwistle is how relaxed they are. People aren’t stuck at tables waiting — they’re up and about, chatting, eating when they fancy, and just having a good time. It creates a much better atmosphere compared to more formal catering. It’s exactly why hog roast catering in Oswaldtwistle works so well for events like this.
As always had plenty of guests come over to ask about future bookings, which is always great to hear. Word of mouth at events like this is our biggest way we grow, and when people see it in person, it really speaks for itself.
All in all, it was a fantastic evening again. Brilliant people, fantastic atmosphere, and great food. We left the club at around 10pm after another event well executed.
