Hog Roast Nelson – Birthday Catering at a Local Function Room

Today we were over in Nelson for a birthday party at a local function room just off the Padiham Bypass. Nelson is always a good one for us — a proper mix of people and always a great atmosphere.

This one was for Claire’s 40th birthday, with around ninety guests expected through the evening. A good crowd, plenty of family and friends, and you could tell straight away it was going to be a lively one.

We arrived a couple of hours before service and got set up straight away. The gazebo was up, the hog was on, and everything was running smoothly within 15–20 minutes. It still surprises people how quickly we get going, but after doing this for years, it’s second nature to us now.

It didn’t take long before people were over. You can always tell when the smell starts drifting — heads turn, people start asking questions, and before you know it, there’s a small crowd forming around the hog.

The serving time for this hog roast Nelson event was around 8 pm, and we got straight into it. Fresh rolls, baked freshly that morning from just down the road at Bertwistles in Padiham, stuffing, apple sauce and a selection of sauces all ready to go. The crackling went first as usual — it never hangs around long — and there were plenty of comments about how tender the pork was.

One thing that stood out at this event was just how quickly people came back for more. You could tell they’d been waiting for it, and once they got a taste, that was it — straight back in the queue.

There was a good bit of banter going on as well, with one group laughing about who was first back for seconds. It’s always a good sign when people are enjoying it that much.

We had everyone fed in no time and kept things ticking along as more guests filtered in. That’s one of the big advantages of a hog roast — it’s flexible and works really well for events where numbers build through the night.
